On a late Friday afternoon in May, an old client, whom Adam Leitman Bailey, P.C. has represented as a shareholder in a cooperative, called the firm. He shared that on that day, his housekeeper had told him that she was ill and wanted to resign from her job. He requested the preparation of an agreement with her which set a final date for her employment, indicated the amount of her severance and the date by which it was to be paid, acknowledged that she was resigning rather than being fired, and included that she would not disclose any information she had learned in the course of her employment. He also requested that she provide him with a general release. The client wanted these documents ready by the time the housekeeper returned to work the following Monday. Brandon Zlotnick drafted the requested agreement and general release and sent them to the client that Friday night, then conferred with the client over the weekend, made additional changes, and sent the final versions of the documents to the client on Sunday. The agreement and release were ready for the client to present to the housekeeper on Monday morning, and the housekeeper executed both without incident. The next day, the client informed Mr. Zlotnick:
Brandon,
The signing and then the notarization was simple and flawless.
We never thought [the housekeeper] was a villain, but your papers cover us.
Thank you for your clear and fast drafting and responses, especially on a Spring weekend.
